Cape Town, South Africa

With loud music heard, street shops open, tin roof shacks, and the maze of gravel roads lies the otherwise forgotten township outside of Brackenfell, in the greater Cape Town metropolitan area. Many children and adults alike are left to the streets begging for money while living in extreme poverty conditions. Begging ultimately can lead to trafficking, exploitation, an introduction to street life, alcohol and drug abuse and makes children vulnerable to sexual exploitation. Despite the diverse surroundings, this community is stuck in a spiral of homelessness, addiction and lack of hope.

A street child and person are always in crisis. EM Africa directly partners with Shiloh, a ministry working to combat this lifestyle of begging by working with different partners in an effort to give responsibly.

While partnering with Shiloh teams will get the opportunity to work with homeless, vulnerable people and also work in schools with children affected by these situations. Teams will get the opportunity to walk alongside this ministry to help support the dignity restoration of the Cape Metropol’s homeless. Shiloh is a meal kitchen that supplies meals for the homeless to be distributed for a very low price. Thousands of meals each week are distributed throughout the area. In the schools, teams will get the chance to serve meals, work with the school programs and in classrooms and also work in after school care. Each of these programs and opportunities will help affirm the local people and ministries.

While working in Cape Town, teams will get the unique opportunity to do ministry in one of South Africa’s most beautiful cities. Located on the West coast, Cape Town is home to a vast array of beaches, beautiful fauna and flora, the famous Table Mountain, and many unique people. The beautiful landscape, various ministry points, and unique culture all will add into the team’s experience of immersing into South Africa.
